Kjeldahl and Steam Distillation System Upgrade – Trade In Your Legacy BUCHI System and Save 20% on the K-365
Laboratories across the food, feed, drinks, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors continue to rely on Steam Distillation and Kjeldahl nitrogen analysis for accurate protein and nitrogen determination, alcohol content, SO2 content to name a few.
However, many laboratories are still operating ageing Distillation systems such as the BUCHI B-323, B-324, K-350, K-355 or K-360.
While these instruments may still function reliably, older systems can introduce operational inefficiencies including higher reagent consumption, increasing maintenance requirements and limited automation.
To support laboratories modernising their Steam Distillation and Kjeldahl workflows, we are offering a trade-in upgrade programme for the BUCHI K-365 Kjeldahl and Steam Distillation Systems.
For a limited time, laboratories trading in eligible legacy systems can receive:
- 20% off the list price of the BUCHI K-365
- Free WEEE-compliant disposal of the existing instrument
- Free professional installation and commissioning
This upgrade programme will run until 31st of August 2026 and is subject to instrument eligibility assessment.

The system supports methods used for:
- Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN)
- Protein determination
- Ammonia analysis
- Method-specific nitrate/nitrite workflows
The instrument is compatible with recognised analytical standards including:
- AOAC protein determination methods
- ISO 937 / ISO 8968-3
- USP <461> Nitrogen Determination
- DIN EN 15750
- Ph. Eur. 2.5.9
- Alcohol: OIV MA-AS312-01A:R2016
- SO2 Monier-Williams: AOAC 990.28 / OIV-MA-AS323-04A/B
- Essential Oils
Accurate Kjeldahl analysis relies on precise control of distillation parameters. The K-365 integrates several features designed to improve measurement consistency.
AutoDist Function
The AutoDist function automatically detects the start of condensation and adjusts the distillation timing accordingly. This removes operator-dependent variability and helps ensure reproducible results across different users and laboratories.
OnLevel Sensor (Configuration Dependent)
Where configured without a mounted titration vessel, the OnLevel sensor stops distillation once a defined condensate volume has been reached. This supports consistent distillate volumes independent of instrument age.
MaxAccuracy Mode
Integrated voltage stabilisation maintains consistent steam output even when laboratory power supply fluctuates, protecting analytical reproducibility.
Upgrading to a modern distillation platform can significantly improve resource efficiency.
Reaction Detection Sensor (Available with Applicable Configurations)
The reaction detection sensor monitors the alkalisation step and stops NaOH dosing once optimum alkaline conditions are reached. This can reduce NaOH consumption by up to 30% compared with conventional fixed dosing.
Intelligent Cooling Water Control
Cooling water flow is automatically controlled during distillation and shut off when not required. This can reduce cooling water usage by approximately 20% compared with older Kjeldahl systems.
Faster Workflow with No Preheating Required
The K-365 does not require preheating before distillation, reducing preparation steps and helping laboratories achieve faster time-to-result.
Greater Workflow Efficiency
Automated distillation and optional external titration reduce manual intervention and allow technicians to focus on other laboratory tasks.
The K-365 incorporates multiple safety and monitoring features designed to support modern laboratory environments, including:
-
Cooling water flow monitoring
-
Steam generator pressure monitoring
-
Tank level sensors for reagents and waste
-
Automatic shutdown if safety shields are opened during operation
Adjustable Steam Output
Adjustable steam output and programmable steam ramps allow the system to handle challenging or foaming samples safely and reproducibly.
Direct Process Visibility
Transparent glass components allow operators to visually monitor the distillation and titration process, supporting both routine operation and method optimisation.
StatusLight System Monitoring
An optional StatusLight indicator allows operators to monitor instrument status from across the laboratory and quickly identify when analyses are complete.
Key Benefits of Upgrading to the K-365
