The Don Whitley Scientific H55 Hypoxystation, like our other Hypoxystations, provides the facility to mimic in vivo conditions, providing a continuous cell culture environment that eliminates cellular stress linked to variations in temperature, pH levels and oxidation, yielding better cell lines. This workstation has two airlocks and allows you to control O2 in 0.1% increments up to 20%; CO2 in 0.1% increments up to 15%; and relative humidity up to 80%. This provides flexibility in your research and confidence in your results.
The H55 has four oval, sleeved portholes and two airlocks (one on the left and one on the right). Two people can easily work side-by-side in this chamber, in the same environmental conditions.
A HEPA filtered version of the H55 Hypoxystation is also available to provide levels of atmospheric cleanliness inside the workstation that exceed the requirements of ISO 14644 Class 3. All the atmosphere inside the chamber passes through the filter hundreds of times an hour, which ensure the chamber environment is cleaned quickly. The Enhanced Biological Containment system can also be specified. This option provides additional safeguards in reducing the possibility of bacteria contained inside workstations being released via the main chamber exhaust valve and the airlock exhaust valve.
If you need to aspirate biological liquid waste from inside the chamber, order with a Vacuum Take-off Port and the Whitley AsPROvac for the perfect package.
Options include:
- Single plate entry system
- Data logging and oxygen profiling capability

More About Whitley H135 GMP HypoxystationWhitley H135 GMP Hypoxystation
The Don Whitley Scientific H135 GMP Hypoxystation is specifically designed to be used as a clean-air isolator in processes following Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). This workstation provides Grade A air cleanliness (EU GMP) and combines sterile hypoxic laminar airflow, positive operating pressure, and physical isolation to provide highly effective product protection. Due to being a completely closed, re-circulating, isolator system, this workstation can be housed in a Grade D cleanroom during GMP compliant use.
The full-time environmental control offered by the H135 GMP Hypoxystation maximises the reproducibility of the cell-manufacturing processes carried out inside. Further, this hypoxic isolator is designed to be modular and can be combined in different ways to form a production line that ensures that the cell-culture environment is never broken from the beginning to the end of the manufacturing process.
Each workstation is tested to ensure compliance with the relevant portions of ISO 14644-3. In addition, tests carried out in our own laboratories confirm the integral HEPA filtered laminar flow system meets the requirements set out in BS EN 12469:2000 with regard to protection of the working area from particulate and microbial contamination.
Two sizes of airlock are available for this workstation: one is 17.5 litres and provides for the effective transfer of up to 10 x 500ml Duran bottles (or items of a similar size) to and from the chamber in just 60 seconds. The airlock’s internal dimensions are 197mm x 388mm x 190mm (W x D x H). The larger airlock is 43 litres (measuring 335 x 300 x 300mm) providing effective transfer for items of equipment or for up to 20 x 500ml Duran bottles in just 5 minutes.
The patented oval glove ports provide maximum comfort when used over extended periods.
Don Whitley Scientific engineers are trained to carry out filter integrity (DOP) testing on HEPA filters. This allows us to provide full validation on Whitley GMP Hypoxic Workstations (Hypoxystations). Customers who work to GMP processes can rest assured that they don’t have to source their own external, specialist organisations to perform these important tests once their workstation has been installed. DWS has invested in the relevant equipment and training to provide this one-stop solution. Customers can have the confidence that their workstation has been tested by engineers who are fully trained in the operation and manufacture of Whitley Workstations.
With internal working area dimensions of (w x d x h): 1075 x 750 x 608mm, there is a generous amount of working space inside the workstation chamber to house equipment such as large scale bioreactors and imaging systems.
If you need to aspirate biological liquid waste from inside the chamber, order a Vacuum Take-off Port and the Whitley AsPROvac for the perfect package.
H135 GMP Workstations Features:
- Precise oxygen control (between 0.1% and 20.9%) and CO2 control (between 0.0% and 15.0%).
- Precise control of humidity (up to 80% RH) and temperature (ambient to 40°C).
- H14 HEPA filters remove all particulate providing better than 99.995% efficiency (MMPS).
- The large workstation chamber is perfect for accommodating a variety of items of equipment, which can be installed and removed

More About Whitley i2 Instrument WorkstationWhitley i2 Instrument Workstation
The Whitley i2 Instrument Workstation has been developed in response to a rising number of enquiries from scientists who desire to use Seahorse Extracellular Flux (XF) Analyzers in hypoxic conditions and were dissatisfied with the solutions available. Rather than adapting an existing tissue culture incubator for this purpose, Don Whitley Scientific developed a new tissue culture incubator specifically to suit the precise requirements of Seahorse Bioscience.
Extensive research and careful consideration have gone into the development of the i2, which has resulted in a modular system that includes a number of novel and unique features. This workstation can be used as a stand-alone unit or connected to a Whitley Hypoxystation via the Whitley Transfer Tunnel, enabling the preparation of cell lines under hypoxic conditions and their transfer directly into the i2 without exposure to air.
The Whitley i2 Instrument Workstation is equipped with a generous working area to conduct preparatory work. It is supplied with a removable front, internal mains sockets, and a wireless footswitch to control the patented oval ports.
Another unique feature is the 4-litre integral incubator. This temperature-controlled storage area enables you to precondition cell ware and incubate plates/media at 37°C, under the same atmospheric conditions as the XF Analyzer.
If your research requires unsurpassed accuracy, reproducibility and reliability, then insist on a Whitley Workstation.
Whitley i2 Instrument Workstation Features:
- The i2 maintains an internal temperature no higher than 28°C, excludes carbon dioxide, and provides precise oxygen control.
- The 12 litre airlock, with a cycle time of just 60 seconds, accommodates up to 7 x 0.5 litre bottles, 44 × 96 well plates or 84 × T25 tissue culture flasks plus numerous other flasks, pipettes and laboratory consumables.
- The Whitley i2 Instrument Workstation is one of a range of larger Whitley Workstations developed to allow customers to use a variety of items of specialised equipment under modified atmospheric conditions.
- The combination of a Whitley i2 Instrument Workstation and Seahorse XF Analyzer permits simultaneous, real-time analysis of mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis in mammalian cells under precisely controlled hypoxic conditions.
